"Driving a team of the Austins immaculately trained and extremely lovable huskies was one of the most memorable adventures I have ever experienced.""

Some rules and regulations about the Iditarod
The object of the race is to see which musher(s) and his/her dogs will be the first to complete the trail without anyone's help. In instances where the race is very close, the lead dog's nose may be the determining factor.
There are stops along the trail that are required by the rules and regulations set forth by the Iditarod Trail Committee, which are for the safety and health of both the dogs and the dogsledders. In addition, there are items that are mandatory throughout the entire race. These are:
Sleeping bag with weight requirements
A working cooker and pot that can boil at least three gallons of water
Promotional material provided by the Iditarod Trail Committee
A pair of snowshoes with requirements in size
Ax with weight and length requirements
Veterinarian notebook
Eight pairs of booties for every dog
